92 years have passed since establishment of the national security agencies which have particular place and role in ensuring national interests and security of Azerbaijan. 

 

On the occasion of professional holiday minister of national security Eldar Mahmudov and personnel staff of the ministry were in the Alley of Honor and honored the memory of national leader Heydar Aliyev – eternal and honorary leader of the Azerbaijan’s national security agencies, founder of nationalization process and professionalism school at this important state structure, who has outstanding services in development of the Ministry of National Security as trustworthy protector of national interests and security of the Azerbaijani people during the years of independence. 

 

The memory of distinguished ophthalmologic-scientist Zarifa khanym Aliyeva was also honored.  

 

In the Martyrs Avenue employees of the Ministry of National Security honored the unforgettable memory of compatriots who lost their life for independence and territorial integrity of the Motherland.

 

Ceremony was continued at the Heydar Aliyev Academy of the Ministry of National Security. In his speech at the ceremony, minister of national security Eldar Mahmudov congratulated personnel staff, cadets and listeners of the Academy on the occasion of 92nd anniversary of the Azerbaijan’s national security agencies, wished them success in education, in their responsible and honorable service in the name of protection of national interests and security.     

 

Solemn ceremony was held at the Ministry of National Security. At first, participants take part at the opening of the newly constructed building of the Ministry that meets most modern requirements. At the foyer of the building Heydar Aliyev’s memory was honored before his bust, sculpted by prominent sculptor Fuad Salayev. Guests were introduced photo gallery dedicated to the life and activity of national leader.    

 

Ceremony participants also have a look at the corner created in honor of memory of National Heroes of the Republic of Azerbaijan who were employees of the Ministry of National Security. 

 

Making a speech at the ceremony that continued at the Assembly Hall of the Ministry of National Security lieutenant-general Eldar Mahmudov congratulated all personnel staff and veterans of Ministry - the followers of the honorary school of national leader on the occasion of professional holiday. 

 

Minister Eldar Mahmudov stated that Azerbaijan currently is in modernization and renovation period of its history. The balanced strategy implemented and served to the national interests is guarantee for economic development and social-political stability in Azerbaijan. Course of stability and development of Heydar Aliyev is successfully continued by the President Ilham Aliyev. Ministry of National Security participated in increase of political power, economic potential and international influence of the country along with other state agencies. 

 

Minister Eldar Mahmudov stressed that favorable geopolitical location, economic and transit potential, as well as other positive factors are seems attractive to foreign special services and criminal elements. Ministry of National Security attaches special importance to these factors in its intelligence, counter-intelligence and military counter-intelligence activity. Thanks to the timely undertaken activities, the work has been successfully continued on prevention and disclosure of the subversion, intelligence and terrorist-provocative activities of foreign intelligence agencies and other entities. 12 people accused of treason and espionage has been revealed as a result of counterintelligence and military counter-intelligence measures. 

 

Prioritizing counter-terrorism as one of the key activity directions of the Ministry of National Security, minister said that 9 criminal cases have been started and 29 people were prosecuted from 2010. 

 

Neutralization of threats against economic potential of Azerbaijan is very important pre-condition for the ensuring national security. This activity is characterized by combating economic and financial crimes, corruption, smuggling and concrete results achieved in these fields. Particularly touching upon corruption problem, minister noted that during the passed period 8 criminal cases have been launched and 12 people were prosecuted.   

 

As a result of operatively-search actions in combating transnational organized crime 24 criminal cases have been started, 44 people were brought to criminal responsibility. Within the measures taken against illegal drug trafficking activity of 30 transnational organized groups have been prevented, 1 ton 500 kg of narcotics have been confiscated, 44 criminal cases have been started based on these facts.  

 

The ministry’s priority is to create favorable conditions for the Azerbaijani leadership’s political course over resolution of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The ministry continued activities, upon President Ilham Aliyev’s recommendations to carry out "attack tactics" in the information war against the enemy, in order to implement these recommendations in purposeful and planned manner and in conjunction with other state agencies.

 

There were published documentaries, over 25,000 books and other resources exposing Armenia’s terrorist policy and bringing the Azerbaijani truth to the world. These materials were also published in foreign languages. The State Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing People played a special role in it.

Head of Heydar Aliyev Academy of the Ministry of National Security Ziya Yusif-zade also made a speech at the ceremony. He spoke about the positive social reactions in attitude to the Ministry’s activity and successes, gave information regarding the educational-training process of the Academy.  

 

In his speech Fuad Alasgarov, head of Department on work with law-enforcement bodies of Administration of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan conveyed President’s congratulations, his high appreciation to the role of the Ministry of National Security in ensuring the state security and national interest.     

 

An appeal to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander in Chief Ilham Aliyev was adopted on behalf of the ceremony participants. 

 

Orders of March 18, 2011 of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on conferring higher military rank and awarding of employees of the Ministry of National Security were declared at the ceremony.
