Protection and effective use of hydrocarbon deposits and energy resources, as well as ensuring of security of the appropriate facilities are of great importance for ensuring of the economical security of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Interagency commission has been established, necessary legislative base has been created and practical measures have been taken for ensuring security of export pipelines. Related state agencies, as well as the Ministry of National Security are presented in the mentioned commission.

The responsibilities of the Ministry of National Security include ensuring security of the fuel-energy infrastructures, determination of possible technical insufficiencies (defects), penetration attempts of foreign special services, possible risks and vulnerable targets for the terror and intelligence activity, as well as control and forecast of developments and dynamics of operative environment.

As the projects implemented in the fuel-energy sector of Azerbaijan have international importance, establishment of close cooperation with neighboring countries that are the party to the relevant projects, as well as with special services of the partner states are among the priorities of the activity of the Ministry of National Security.
