 Vagif Huseynov was born on November 27th, 1942 in Guba. After secondary education, he served in the Soviet Army in 1961-1964. In 1971, he graduated from Journalism department of Azerbaijan State University. After that, he worked in a number of newspapers – Sport, Molodyoj Azerbaydjana (Youth of Azerbaijan), Olimpiyskaya Panorama (Olympic Panorama), as well as on TV. He was an activist of Communist Party and held several executive posts. He worked as First secretary of Baku city committee of Communist Party of Azerbaijan SSR, member of Central Committee of Communist Party of Azerbaijan SSR, deputy of Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan SSR. He worked as Chairman of KGB of Azerbaijan SSR from August 19th, 1989 to September 13th, 1991. He was against national independence movement in Azerbaijan and participated closely in policies and activities of Kremlin during January 20th events.
