The “Guarding Independence, Statehood and National Security” Museum of the Ministry of National Security was opened by the National Leader of Azerbaijani people - Heydar Aliyev on June 28, 1997. The idea of creation of museum in the Ministry of National Security (MNS) with the purpose of highlighting unknown pages of the activity of security services was first put forward by Heydar Aliyev. On the occasion of 85th anniversary of security services, the area of the Museum was expanded and it was enriched with new exhibits and expositions. Located at the headquarters of the MNS, the Museum consists of 2 big halls and 5 working rooms. The Museum is rich with archive materials and original documents reflecting the process of formation and stages of development of the security forces of Azerbaijan, as well as period of the XX century of our history. The Museum contains materials on positive and negative aspects of the activity of security forces, as well as both insufficiencies and successes in establishing and developing of Azerbaijani statehood. Writers, scientists, journalists and other members of Azerbaijani society were contributed by the materials of the Museum in preparing different articles, thesis etc. Exhibits of the Museum on the activity of special services of Azerbaijan were divided into three parts:
