Sheikhzamanly Naghi Salekh: August, 1919-March, 1920
Naghi Sheikhzamanly was born in 1883 in Ganja city of Azerbaijan. He had participated in political life of Azerbaijan from his early years, first by entering Ganja section of “Difai”, which was founded by Ahmet bey Agaev in 1905, and later in 1917 joining to the “Turk Adami-Markaziyyat” of Nasib bey Yusifbeil. In May, 1917, after this party merged with “Muslim democratic musavat” party to form “Musavat”, N.Sheikhzamanly had continued his social and political activity within this newly formed party. In August, 1919 he was appointed as the chief of the “Organization to struggle against counterrevolution” (after his brother M.Sheikhzamanly resigned) and continued to serve in the office till March, 1920, when the organization was dissolved. After Russian occupation (on April 28th, 1920), he had to emigrate and spent the rest of his life abroad, first in Turkey, later in Germany and the USA. He published several books under the Keikurun pseudonym, mainly reflecting his views on social and political events happening in Azerbaijan. He published “The great philanthropist Hadji Zeynalabidin Tagiev”(1957), ”Disstressment”(1963), “Memoirs of independence struggle in Azerbaijan”(1964) in Istanbul. The essays from his last two books were republished by Ministry of National Security in 2004. He died in 1967 in the USA.
