 Fakhraddin Tahmazov was born on January 10th, 1951 in Garachala village of Salyan to a family of teacher. He finished secondary school in Ali-Bayramli in 1968 and graduated from Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute as a teacher of Russian and Literature in 1973; after that, he worked as a teacher in Ali-Bayramli for some time. After he completed his military service in 1975, he continued his pedagogical activities. He studied in the higher school of KGB named after Dzerzhinsky in 1975-1977 and after that worked in central apparatus of KGB of Azerbaijan SSR from August, 1977 till June, 1990 as junior operational attorney, operational attorney, senior operational attorney, deputy head of section and head of section. From June, 1990 till December, 1991 he worked as deputy head of section of MNS (Ministry of National Security; till November, 1991 – KGB) at Gence city and railway station. In January, 1992 he started to work as head of sector at Baku department of MNS. On May 16th, 1992 he was appointed as Minister of National Security and was promoted to the rank of major-general on May 23rd. He was discharged from this position in June, 1993.
