 Ziya Yusifzadeh was born in 1929 in Sheki district of Azerbaijan. In 1945, after graduating from the secondary school, he was working as a teacher in Zagatala city of Azerbaijan. In 1952, he graduated from the Moscow State Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages as a “pedagogue of English language”. In 1956, he started to work in the State Security Committee (KGB) of USSR. During his activity in the State Security Committee, he was awarded different medals. In 1977, he was first promoted to the military rank of major-general, and in 1984 to the leutenant-general. In 1980-1988, he served as a chief of the State Security Committee of Azerbaijan SSR. By the decree of July 28, 1999, of the president of the Republic of Azerbaijan Z.Yusifzadeh was appointed as chief of the Academy of the Ministry of National Security. By the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan of March 25, 2004, he was decorated with an order of the “Flag of Azerbaijani”.
